Online Security

Have you ever experienced your online account being hacked? How about your identity being stolen on the internet? Or maybe you have once became a victim of some bogus accounts online who you thought is legitimate? This is another kind of fraud that is happening online. There is always danger everywhere and the world wide web is no exception.

When you sign up on any online entity or website, most of them requires you to give away your personal information. Such information as your name, email address, physical address, phone number, password, your bank account information (if you are buying or transacting with your bank account online) or more. If you would not be careful and do not know how to distinguish a legitimate website from bogus ones, you may well find yourself in trouble.

If you do not personally know how to transact online, it would be better for you not to try at all and just go to the physical establishments to do your transactions. If on the other hand you do not have any choice but to  do online transaction, ask someone to help you. In any case, here are some tips that will guide you to avoid falling into fraudulent traps: Make sure you get the legitimate web address of the establishment or company you will be visiting online. This will prevent you from finding yourself engaged on bogus ones. Refrain from giving away sensitive information such as your bank account/credit card details if not at all very necessary. Look for authenticity seals on websites. This is a way to know if the website is trustworthy. Samples of security seals are TRUSTed websites, Verisign Trust Seal, McAfee Secure Trsutmark, GeoTrust, etc.

Not all websites however have this seals but are also legitimate. If you are skeptical, do not go ahead with the transaction. Verification of authenticity can be done by checking them on online search tools. Doing this, you can make yourself be more confident to transact online and also protect yourself.
