Tips For Finding A Missing Person

Trying to search for a missing person can be very challenging and daunting, especially if the person is someone dear to you. The pressure, worry, and anxiety, mixed with tired mind and body can be very exhausting.

Let us first define who is the "missing person." The "missing person" is the one who have been physically out of touch with you, either for a long time, or a matter of few days. The police requires that you report a person as missing when he/she has been missing after 24 hours. But if the incident is obviously a crime or an incident that should be taken action immediately, report it promptly. Panic can not help you when this happens. You need to remain as calm as possible.

Here are some tips on how to find a missing person.

1. Contact the authorities.  Act fast and quickly report the incident of the missing person. Give the details leading to the disappearance. Fill out a missing person report promptly.

2. Submit the report to an officer and provide photographs. Make sure you have given sufficient data before leaving the police station.

3. Follow up and call the authorities regarding new leads and to know about the case's progress.

4. Find and utilize other methods such as calling the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)  to report the missing person.

5. Check out hospitals, emergency clinics, and medical examiners and see if they recently have had the name of the person you are looking for. If they do, get the additional information if allowed.

6. Make missing person posters and post them in strategic places like convenience stores, gasoline stations, near schools and other places. Actually, for this case, all places are strategic.

7. There are many missing person databases on line. Make use of them.

8. Seek help from the media. Provide them with the facts and photo of the missing person and their word can surely help you spread the news and could probably lead you to the whereabouts of the person you are looking for.
